From the Executive Director Sandi Risdal:
I joined Habitat for Humanity of Central Iowa in May of 2007 and since that day I began to realize how much I had taken quality housing for granted. Every person deserves to live in a decent, affordable, and quality home. Our function, as an affiliate is to advocate and support this mission. And that makes me proud to be part of such a hard working organization. I hear the volunteers constantly saying that the experience has changed their lives forever. They are moved to tears working side by side with our partner families. Our families are moved to tears by their own sense of accomplishment and success. They are also touched by their new network of family/friends. It is truly a wonderful experience.
The year 2010 marked several special milestones. We celebrated the completion of our 40th home. We put together a fantastic concert with Simon Estes and 7 area high school choirs. We held our 4th annual golf event. During the month of May we dedicated a rehab project and in December we dedicated two more homes. One was a Thrivent Builds Homes Project and the other a partnership with the City of Ames. Because of so many donors, in-kind donations, partnerships three families moved into their new homes before the end of the year and their lives changed dramatically. They completed their sweat equity, worked hard, and planned for homeownership for several months. Now it is a reality. One reason we can continue to help families is because of the fantastic support we receive.
We are blessed to have dedicated volunteers, generous donors, community organization support, business support, and family/friends that help make these dreams a reality. As we join together during upcoming holiday and family dinners I know I will give thanks for the precious support to our organization. Your gifts of time, talent, and treasure are more important this year than ever. I would like to thank you for your continued support for our work in whatever way you chose. You truly make a difference in the lives of many area families.
We are rejoicing in our blessings during 2011. Please join us.
Most Gratefully,
Sandi Risdal
